How big should a cold water storage tanks be?

A new cold water tank should have a minimum capacity of at least:

136 litres (25 gal) if it is to supply only either a cold water system or a hot water system.

204 litres (45 gal), (ideally 250 litres (55 gal)) if it is to serve both the cold and hot water systems.

The size you will need will depend on a number of factors. The tank is sizes based on the demand within the building, calculations considering the number or washrooms, basins, showers and other facilities that use water. The number of people within the building also forms part of the calculation.

Do you need a cold water storage tanks?

If the usage within a building is greater than the mains supply can deliver, creating a loss in pressure when other items are using water, eg. you loose pressure in your bathroom when the washer or sink in your kitchen is being used, this indicates you may need a cold water storage tank, A cold water storage tank is used for the storage of large amounts of water from which the building is supplied with water. The tank is then replenished by the mains water supply at a steadier rate
